Miranda - Angel

Hello, my name is Miranda. I’m a 17-year-old Golden/Sheltie girl and I’m quite tiny – 39 pounds to be exact. I’m grateful to have joined the GRRR family. I know you’re amazed by my age. It’s really true! I’ve been very lucky to have lived this long. You see, if I hadn’t lived this long I would never have known how good life can really be and how amazing it is to be unconditionally loved by all of you -- and especially my wonderful foster mom.

I was at this place in Virginia with 90 other dogs. We were being kept by a “dog collector” (that’s a nicer term than a hoarder). Someone took me away from there and brought me all the way to Colorado. Then he left me at a shelter of all places. The shelter was very scary, and sleeping on the concrete floor was hard on my poor old body. But then Gail, a wonderful GRRR volunteer, came for me and took me home with her.  At first I didn’t understand affection or people since I had never had any attention my entire life. Now I live to be loved!

I was immediately taken to the vet for an exam. It was the first medical treatment I had ever received. Can you believe that I had never even been spayed? I’m sure I had puppies, but my memory of that awful life has dimmed since love and security has become a part of my world. I was quickly spayed and had three tumors and five teeth removed. The tumor under my ear was cancerous, and since they couldn't get it all I’ll need more surgery soon.   I’m very grateful for all the help because I really want to enjoy this new life as long as I can – every minute, every hour, every day. It couldn’t be more wonderful!

The original plan was for me to foster with Gail until my new family came along.   I have become a very devoted companion to Gail. I follow her everywhere just to be sure she’s okay. When she goes out to the horses I wait right by the gate for her to return.  There’s a big yard for me to explore, and I can walk all the way around the outside of the house in a big circle. I’m deaf, but I always come when Gail beckons me. We get a lot of snuggle time in. In the mornings I get to jump in bed with Gail. I’m always careful not to wake her and just quietly snuggle up. She tells me I’m very sweet and loving. As you can tell, I’ve been through a lot and I’ve become so attached to Gail.  I’m happy and comfortable for the first time in my life and I'm with someone who really loves me.  Gail has decided that I can stay in hospice care with her.  Now I won’t ever have to leave her.  Gail says I am surely a “Golden Angel.”  I'm convinced she's an angel, too.

If you’d like to help out with my medical expenses I would be forever grateful. The Golden Angel Fund has given me the precious gift of life. Please know that I love you all with my entire heart and cherish every single day of love and kindness. It’s a wonderful life indeed!
